My 10-year-old nephew ranked every theme park he’s ever visited. Dubai’s MOTIONGATE came third, behind Universal Studios and ahead of Disneyland Paris. I asked him why. “Because you can ride a roller coaster inside a Smurfs movie.”
He’s not wrong. Dubai has three major theme parks beyond Aquaventure, and each one fills a different niche. MOTIONGATE for movie-themed rides, LEGOLAND for younger kids, and Wild Wadi for a waterpark with Arabic theming.

Tickets for each park run $54-$80 per person. Multi-park passes are available if you’re spending more than one day. Here’s what each park offers and who it’s best for.

MOTIONGATE Dubai — Movie Magic
MOTIONGATE is Dubai’s answer to Universal Studios. The park is divided into zones themed around DreamWorks, Columbia Pictures, Lionsgate, and Smurfs Village. Each zone has rides, shows, and attractions based on their movie properties.

Best Rides at MOTIONGATE
Capitol Bullet Train (Lionsgate): The headline roller coaster. Based on The Hunger Games, it accelerates to high speed through indoor and outdoor sections. Not for the faint-hearted — the G-forces are real.

Shrek’s Merry Fairy Tale Journey: A family-friendly dark ride through Shrek’s world. Gentle enough for 4-year-olds, entertaining enough that parents don’t zone out. The animatronics are surprisingly good.
Zombieland Blast Off: A drop tower ride in the Zombieland scare zone. You’re launched upward and dropped repeatedly while zombie theming surrounds you. Not suitable for young children or anyone who recently ate.

MOTIONGATE Dubai Theme Park Entry Ticket — $80

Full-day access to all rides, shows, and attractions across five movie-themed zones. At $80, it’s competitive with theme parks globally. The park is large enough for a full day — 27 rides and attractions plus live shows.
Book online for guaranteed entry and sometimes a small discount. The park reaches capacity during school holidays. Read our full review of MOTIONGATE.
LEGOLAND Dubai — Built for Kids
LEGOLAND is designed specifically for children aged 2-12. Adults without kids will find it underwhelming. Adults WITH kids will find it exhausting in the best way. Everything is interactive, colourful, and built from 60 million Lego bricks.

What LEGOLAND Offers
40+ rides and attractions across six themed zones. Most rides have height requirements that keep them accessible for young children. The Dragon Coaster is the most thrilling — gentle enough for 5-year-olds but exciting enough that they ask to go again.

Build and Test zones let kids construct Lego vehicles and race them on ramps. This is where most children spend the longest — building, testing, rebuilding, and competing with siblings. The workshops also run building classes with Lego experts.
LEGOLAND Water Park is a separate ticket ($80) or can be added as a combo. It has 20 water slides and attractions scaled for children. Less intense than Aquaventure but better suited for younger kids who find the big park overwhelming.

LEGOLAND Dubai Theme Park Entry Ticket — $80

Full-day access to LEGOLAND Dubai with all rides and attractions included. The park is manageable in one day — it’s smaller than MOTIONGATE and designed for shorter attention spans.
The LEGOLAND + Water Park combo ($120) is worth it if your kids love water. The parks are connected and you can move between them freely. See our full review of LEGOLAND Dubai.
Wild Wadi Waterpark — Arabian Splash
Wild Wadi is the waterpark with the view. Located in Jumeirah next to the Burj Al Arab, it offers 30 rides and attractions with the world’s most famous hotel as your backdrop. The Sinbad-inspired Arabian theming gives it a character that Aquaventure doesn’t have.

30 rides and attractions ranging from toddler pools to the Jumeirah Sceirah tandem slides. The interconnected lazy river system links most areas of the park — you can float between sections without walking.
The Burj Al Arab view is Wild Wadi’s unique selling point. Sun loungers face the hotel, the wave pool reflects it, and every photo has it in the background. No other waterpark in the world has this kind of backdrop.

Wild Wadi Waterpark Entrance Ticket — $54

Full-day access to all 30 rides and attractions. At $54, it’s the most affordable major waterpark in Dubai. The smaller size means shorter queues and less walking — a genuine advantage when the sun is trying to cook you.
The Jumeirah Beach location means you can combine it with a morning at the nearby Old Dubai souks or an afternoon jet ski tour from JBR. Read our full review of Wild Wadi.
Which Dubai Theme Park Is Right for You?
The answer depends entirely on your family composition.

Kids aged 2-7: LEGOLAND. Everything is scaled for small hands and short attention spans. The rides are gentle, the building zones are engaging, and the Lego characters make everything feel magical.
Kids aged 8-14: MOTIONGATE. The rides are more intense, the movie themes resonate with this age group, and the 4D experiences are genuinely impressive. Teenagers won’t feel like they’ve outgrown this park.
Mixed ages or teens + adults: Wild Wadi or Aquaventure. Waterparks work for everyone. Wild Wadi is cheaper and has the Burj Al Arab view. Aquaventure is bigger and has more extreme slides.

Aquaventure vs Wild Wadi — The Waterpark Showdown
Dubai has two major waterparks and visitors always ask which one to choose. Here’s the honest comparison.

Aquaventure ($90): Bigger, more slides (105 vs 30), includes the Lost Chambers Aquarium, has a private beach. The headline rides are more extreme. Better for thrill-seekers and full-day visits. See our Aquaventure guide.
Wild Wadi ($54): Cheaper, more intimate, better location (Jumeirah vs Palm), and the Burj Al Arab backdrop. The interconnected lazy river system is unique. Better for families who want a relaxed day without the Aquaventure crowds.

Best Time to Visit Dubai’s Theme Parks
October to April is ideal for all three parks. Comfortable temperatures for outdoor rides and waterparks. This is peak season, so book online and arrive at opening.
May to September is brutal for Wild Wadi (full sun, 45°C+) but manageable for MOTIONGATE and LEGOLAND thanks to their indoor sections. Waterpark visits in summer should be morning-only — by 2pm the heat is dangerous.

Multi-Park Passes
If you’re spending more than one day at the theme parks, the multi-park passes save significant money.
Two-Park Pass ($120): Access to any two parks in one day. MOTIONGATE + LEGOLAND or LEGOLAND + Water Park are the most popular combos. It’s a long day but doable if you start early.
All-Parks Annual Pass ($200-$300): Unlimited access for a year. Worth it if you live in Dubai or visit multiple times. Includes discounts on food and merchandise.
Practical Tips
Arrive at opening (10am). The first hour has the shortest queues. Hit the popular rides first — Capitol Bullet Train at MOTIONGATE, Dragon Coaster at LEGOLAND, Jumeirah Sceirah at Wild Wadi.
Weekdays are significantly less crowded. Saturday and Sunday (UAE weekend) see peak attendance. School holidays amplify the crowds further. Tuesday and Wednesday are consistently the quietest days.
Bring sunscreen for Wild Wadi. The waterpark is fully outdoor. Reapply every hour. The covered rest areas provide shade but the rides and pools are in direct sun.
MOTIONGATE and LEGOLAND are partially indoor. About 40% of each park is climate-controlled, making them better summer options than Wild Wadi. The air-conditioned ride queues and indoor attractions are a relief in 45°C heat.

Getting There
Dubai Parks and Resorts (MOTIONGATE + LEGOLAND): Located on Sheikh Zayed Road near Jebel Ali, about 40 minutes from central Dubai. Take the metro to Jebel Ali station then bus/taxi, or drive directly — free parking is available.
Wild Wadi: Located in Jumeirah, next to the Burj Al Arab. Taxi from the Marina: $10. From Downtown: $15. The hop-on hop-off bus stops nearby.
What Else to Do in Dubai
Theme park days pair well with calmer activities. The yacht cruises are the perfect evening wind-down after a day of rides. The dinner cruises give tired families a relaxing dinner with no walking required.
For the day before or after the theme parks, the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Aquarium in the Dubai Mall are indoor, air-conditioned, and a completely different pace.
