Fort Zoutman

Fort Zoutman offers a unique opportunity for the visitor to experience history of Aruba at first hand. The fort is located in the capital city of Oranjestad in Aruba. Visitors can see history reflected in the walls of the fort. The historical documents inside the Fort Zoutman Historical Museum detail the history and origin of the fort.

The fort was built in 1798 for protection against the raiding band of pirates. It is named after a Dutch Admiral, Johan Arnold Zoutman, who had defeated an English fleet a year after the fort was built.

Every Tuesday night, a Welcome Party, also known as Bon Bini Festival, takes place inside the fort to celebrate the rich cultural and historical legacy of the island. Apart from that, there are many other fun and interesting things to do in Fort Zoutman. Located near the Zoutman fort is Willem III Tower, constructed in 1868. Today, both the tower and the fort serve as a proud national symbol of Aruba. The fort museum is opened Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. A visit to the place is a must if you want to learn about the colonial past of Aruba.

The Eagle Beach is located in Oranjestad in Aruba. It is a famous tourist attraction that is known for its exotic sandy beach and affordable resorts. SS Antilla

SS Antilla is one of the largest shipwrecks that can be found in the Caribbean. Also known as ES Antilla, it was a German cargo ship that was launched in 1939 and sunk a year later in 1940. The ship was built by the Germans for trade between the Caribbean. SS Antilla was appropriately named after a city located in the Holguin Province in the Cuba.

SS Antilla is the third largest known shipwreck in the world that is surpassed only by the cruise liners Antilles and Bianca C. It is an extremely popular site for penetration diving. The wreckage of the SS Antilla is located near the Malmok Bay in Aruba. Scuba divers can find many interesting things to do in SS Antilla.

The ship was broken into two during a violent storm in 1953. Tube sponges and corals have colonized the ship wreck that attracts hawksbill sea turtles, lobsters, blue tang, moray eels and many other species of marine life. Divers have reported sightings of a large goliath grouper in the forward section of the wreckage. On the whole, this is a must visit site in the Bahamas as you can find many exciting things to do in SS Antilla.

Alto Vista Chapel

Alto Vista Chapel is a small Catholic church that is located to the north east of the town of Noord in Aruba on the hills above the north shore of the sea. Also called Pilgrim's Church, the chapel is a prominent landmark in the area that is painted in stark bright yellow color.

Construction of the present chapel was completed in 1952. The previous church that was located here was built by Venezuelan missionaries from Santa Ana de Coro in 1750. It is situated on the Aruba Island about eight kilometers away from California Lighthouse. The area is served by Queen Beatrix International Airport.

Visitors can find many interesting things to do in Alta Vista Chapel and the nearby areas. Bike tours are the most popular way of exploring the attractions in the island including the Alto Vista Chapel. The chapel is situated amidst a desert environment of shrubs, sands and cactus.
