In the outskirts of Vorarlberg in the state of Bregenz lies the beautiful Wettingen-Mehrerau Abbey. The abbey is quite large in size, almost as big as a hotel, and there are many things to do in Wettingen-Mehrerau Abbey. History buffs can travel here and learn about the vast history of this Cistercian monastery.
The Abbey also comprises of a restaurant and is a famous tourist spot as it provides a welcoming atmosphere with classic and beautiful architecture plus good food.

In the history of the Abbey, it was founded, then dissolved and then founded again. It went through a lot of political and religious power struggles. The buildings are quite rich in history and are very beautiful as they still reflect the old European village architecture. Wettingen-Mehrerau Abbey is counted as a heritage sight of national significance.

The site is also a monument to Cardinal Hergenrötherm, the first cardinal prefect of the Vatican Archives who was buried here in 1890. The Abbey also contains a sanatorium along with a secondary school for which there is a boarding house inside the Abbey’s structure.
