Tanzania is an ethnically diverse place with more than 120 different tribes residing in the country. Butiama, which is also the birthplace of the first president of Tanzania, holds great significance to Tanzanian history. The Museum Centre is an organized effort of the Tanzanian government to help locals and foreigners learn more about the country and its father of the nation. The museum exhibits various objects that are connected to Tanzania’s first President’s lifetime. Some of the items displayed at the museum include the gifts that Mwalimu Julius Nyerere received during his presidency and objects that he personally used during his life, such as his clothing, walking stick, and gardening tools. Outside the museum, a cemetery is present where Nyerere was laid to rest.
