Western Australia has only one structure that is recognized officially as a World Heritage Listed Building, the Fremantle Prison. This is the largest convict prison around. For almost 140 years, this was the place used for incarceration. It was not until 1991 that the place was decommissioned for maximum security. An year later, it opened to the public.
