11. Birla Mandir - Kolkata

Birla Mandir

This is a Hindu temple on a 13 acre plot in Hyderabad India on a 280 ft high hill. Declared open in 1976, it was built in a span of 10 years. This is one of the series of the temples constructed by India’s famous Birla family. They have made such temples in other cities in India as well including Kanpur, Kolkata, Jaipur, Patna and 13 other cities in India. It houses the idol of deity Venkateswara which is 11 feet in height.

It is a Jain Temple in the Indian port city of Calcutta (also called Kolkata). Its other name is Parshwanath Temple and it was built in the year 1867 somewhat 80 years before India gained independence from Britain. It is actually a temple complex where four other temples are built together namely Shitalnath Ji, Chandraprabhu Ji, Mahavir Swami and Dadawadi Temples. The Jains are the only people who are officially allowed to enter the temple. It is also known as one of the Chief houses of Jainism in India.

It is a Hindu temple situated near the city of Calcutta to the east of Hooghly River. It was built in 1855 by philanthropist Rani Rashmoni who was a devotee of the Hindu Goddess Kaali. Bhavatarini, a rendition of Kaali is the deity that is housed in the temple. Its notable feature is that it is a symbol of Bengali architecture and consists of 12 temples dedicated to Shiva, Kaali’s male counterpart and 2 other temples that are visited daily by huge crowds.
