Tayrona National Park is a protected enclave in the northern part of Columbia near the city Santa Marta in the department of Magdalena. It covers an area of about 30 sq. km. of maritime area and 150 sq. km. of land. Here you can find an extensive collection of animal life including 300 species of birds and 108 species of mammals. The onclilla, the mantled howler, deer, and bats are some of the residents of the park. The national park is one of the most frequently visited parks in the country, with thousands of visitors flocking the area every year. It includes facilities for eco tourism and paths that are suitable for walking. The Chairama Archaeological Museum is a major attraction located in the park that is situated near the mouth of Piedras River in the Cañaveral Site. Apart from this, there are many other interesting places to visit and things to do in the Tayrona National Park including Los Naranjos, The Pool, Castilletes Beach, San Juan Out and the Pidras River.
