Sossusvlei is a preferred tourist destination that lies on the south side of the Namib Desert in Namibia. The word ‘vlei’ refers to a marsh and Sossusvlei itself lies in the middle of a valley between dunes which can experience some snow during the winter. Since the place is one of the foremost attractions in Namibia, the authorities have done a lot to ensure tourists are not inconvenienced in any way while travelling through it.

The road, which was built in the first part of the early 2000s, connects it to Sesriem. Visitors can also find several options for accommodations along the border of the National Park between Sesriem and a nearby settlement called Solitaire. The park also has its own accommodations.

Visitors can also take flights across the dunes of Sossusvlei either in a small plane or in hot air balloons if they are feeling extra adventurous. The former can be taken from Swakopmund and Walvis Bay while the latter can be taken from Sesriem in the early hours of the morning. The location is actually the most photographed in the world and the scenic flights will stand as testament to this fact. It was also the setting for a number of fantasy movies and commercials.
