Things to do in Rhodes

The largest Dodecanese island, Rhodes is a touristic place in Greece and is known as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. Once in Rhodes you must visit the different ancient ruins of the island and the Old Town which is a very interesting touristic place. Dont forget to try the delicious cuisine there too.

Rhodes, the biggest of Greece's Dodecanese islands, is known for its shoreline resorts, antiquated remains and leftovers of its occupation by the Knights of St. John amid the Crusades. The city of Rhodes has an Old Town highlighting the medieval Street of the Knights and the castlelike Palace of the Grand Masters. Caught by the Ottomans and after that held by the Italians, the castle is presently a history exhibition hall. The chief town of the island and seat of the region is Rhodes. The city of Rhodes had 50,636 occupants in 2011. It is found upper east of Crete, southeast of Athens and simply off the Anatolian bank of Turkey. Rhodes' epithet is The island of the Knights, named after the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem, who once vanquished the land.

The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes is a medieval stronghold in the city of Rhodes, on the island of Rhodes in Greece. It is one of only a handful couple of cases of Gothic engineering in Greece. The site was once revered as a stronghold of the Knights Hospitaller and was used as a castle, home office and post. To this day several of the artifacts, weapons and other belongings are located in this Palace and are open for visitors to take a look at.
