Rome is such a beautiful place that even its squares are famous the world over. Piazza Di Spagna is a very popular tourist attraction, and the weird thing is that one of its most prominent features is a staircase. Even before the steps, this was a well known place. The Trinità dei Monti church was situated at a hill in front of the square, and the square had the great fountain called the Fontana della Barcaccia. It was considered important to link the two; however, people were concerned about destroying the hill and losing the natural beauty of the place. It literally took decades to come to a good solution, but finally, it was decided that Piazza Di Spagna would be connected to the church through 135 steps. The solution to maintaining the beauty of the place was to create the steps in such a way that they compliment the church and the square. When you look up from the Spanish steps, you see the church in all its imposing glory. The square and the steps are very popular with tourists, especially due to them being featured in some great movies, the most famous of which is the Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn.
