Suva is the capital of Fiji. The city of Suva is surrounded with lots of greenery that really makes it a worthy sight to see. Suva is rich in culture and has great weather with a good amount of rain. The city is filled with lots of architectural buildings, shopping malls and restaurants. The smaller lanes in the city consist of sari shops and curry houses, and there are cinemas that play Hollywood and Bollywood movies for people to enjoy.

Visiting the ANZ National Stadium is one of the many things to do in Suva. The stadium was built in 1979 and it is used for many different kinds of native sports in Fiji. The stadium can accommodate up to 15,000 people. The stadium was last renovated in 2012 and reopened in 2013. Many big worldwide events have taken place at this stadium such as the Pacific Games. The Government House of Fiji is also located in Suva and visiting it is one of the many things to do in Suva while you are in the area. Tourists are not allowed to enter the building itself but are allowed to walk around the grounds and explore them. It is definitely a sight to see with its green gardens and architectural styled buildings. Suva also has a popular park called Albert Park, which is mainly a field of grass where sports events take place, and when it is free, it is a peaceful place to go and relax at. There are stone benches to sit on and big beautiful trees that also surround the park, providing ample shade. For more adventure, Suva also has the biggest mountain in Fiji and it is well worth the difficult climb up and back down. For those interested in swimming in the forest, they can make their way down the Waimanu Rivers that lead directly to the swimming holes. The Museum is laid out in the beautiful Thurston Gardens. It was made in 1955 and the museum’s centerpiece is a Ratu Finau which is basically a canoe which was used by warriors to head out to sea.

One of the best things to do in Fiji is to take a trip to the museum and then after visiting the museum, to stop by to see the absolutely stunning botanical garden known as Thurston Gardens. The garden is built on the same ground where the original city of Suva once was, before it got burned down in 1843 during the bloodiest fights in the history of Fiji.

The famous clock tower that is standing in the garden was made in 1918 in honor of the first mayor of Suva. The garden was first named Suva Botanical Gardens but then it was later changed to Thurston Gardens after the 5th governor of Fiji, Sir John Bates Thurston. The Garden shows off its beauty with tropical plants, beautiful colorful flowers and trees, and also a heritage of the colonial times.

There are many things to do in Thurston Gardens including walking around and relaxing, enjoying the serenity and indulging in the lovely scents of all the plants and taking beautiful photographs with your loved ones. The garden is maintained by the Fiji Museum management and a lot of the buildings and architecture is in need of some work but people still come to enjoy the fresh air and different varieties of water lilies, gingers, and other beautiful flowers.

If you want to do something less adventurous, one of the things to do in Fiji is to visit the Garden of the Sleeping Giant. It is more than just a garden because it has a large variety of plants, flowers, trees, and also, wildlife. The garden was made in 1977 by Raymond Burr who used to plant these beautiful orchids in his house at the time, until it later became a tourist spot. It is located about 30 minutes away from Nadi. Once you reach the site, there are many things to do in the Garden Of The Sleeping Giant.

You can start off with getting a tour about the history of the mountain valley and how it became a beautiful garden. The main highlight of the place is the beautiful orchid flowers of which there are about 30 to 40 different types that are displayed throughout the garden. Seeing them in broad daylight is definitely worth the time and money. It is an experience that all age groups would surely enjoy and before you leave the gardens, you will be refreshed with a delightful fruity drink to keep you hydrated and cool for the rest of your journey.
