Best attractions to visit in Ulster

1. Grianan of Aileach - Ulster

Grianan of Aileach

For spectacular views of glistening waters as far as the eye can see and a verdant peninsula that will keep you mesmerized for hours, head to Grianan of Aileach. The massive stone fort is nestled on a hilltop in Irishowen County Deongal and is about 250 m above sea level thus the stunning view it offers. Needless to say your trip to Ireland will not be complete until you visit this historical fortress. One of the main things to do in Giranan of Aileach is to marvel at the view and take as many photos as possible to commemorate your visit. The sparkling clear water of the Lough Swilly and Foyle are clear as day and the windy weather will rejuvenate you as soon as you step out in the open air. On a clear day you might even be able to see three Irish counties at once, a fact that was quite helpful to its historical occupants. One of the things to do in Giranan of Aileach is to visit Inch Island which can be seen from the fort and can be accessed through a causeway road. However, you might be too enthralled by the fort to wander off elsewhere. Boasting massive terraces and the famous earthen banks that encircle it, Giranan of Aileach offers a rare glimpse of the history of the area complete with an old roadway that you can wander on for hours.
