Toward the Ringstraße Heldenplatz is bordered by a wide triumphal arc, known as the Äußere Burgtor. The arc was constructed in the range between 1821 and 1824 to honors the Battle of Leipzig in 1813 where Austria conquered the troops of Napoleon. The arc was initially incorporated with the city's protective walls.
