Inspired by the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow the architect Philipp Hoffmann built the Russian Orthodox Church of Saint Elizabeth due to the request of Duke Adolf of Nassau on the event of the early passing of his wife Elizabeth Mikhailovna. The construction procured from 1847 to 1855 at the time where Wiesbaden used to be a very famous attraction to the Russians. Even Tsar Nicholas II prayed in this cathedral.
