One of the top 10 tourist attractions in Vienna is the St Stephan’s Cathedral.
This historical monument was built in the 14th century on top of the ancient ruins of two churches that were on the site previously.
Tourists visiting Vienna can perceive the high towers of the Votive Church clearly above its surrounding buildings and trees.
Its neo-gothic architecture is based initially on the designs of magnificent cathedrals found in France.
The Votive Church is a result of an architectural competition held by the Emperor Franz Joseph’s brother to build a church to commemorate his brother’s escape from a near assassination.
The competition resulted in over 70 projects being submitted from artists of many diverse backgrounds offering varied types of architecture styles.
