Travellers and tourists to Beijing are mesmerised by its magnificent ancient charm. The historical monuments enthrall one and all. Tourists prefer staying closer to the main city. Royal Phoenix, a premier hotel is a decent launching pad for visits to the Forbidden City and other Beijing central city sites. The location is excellent. Walking distance to the subway. Many shops and restaurants on the main street including the world famous Wangfujian street or snacks street. Though it is down a hutong (alleyway), it is less than a 5 minute walk to the main street. One can even walk to the Forbidden city if one wants to. On the basis of price and location This hotel is a pleasant surprise. It is not an exciting or stylish hotel certainly - but it has big decent rooms, clean, good bathrooms, lots of hot water, and very comfortable bed. It is in a good area down a narrow a lane. Staff and service is helpful and friendly. Though the ambience or cute details are missing to make it a memorable hotel. For the money it is of great value. The breakfast buffet is excellent with a wide selection of Asian and Western choices. Do try out the restaurant. An 8 course meal for two for 98 yuan ($16) and it is delicious. Go for it , you will like it. The deluxe rooms are large and furnished tastefully for comfort. Everything is perfectly laid out in the rooms- from the furniture to the bathroom fittings. The rain shower and hand held showers both are good and spews hot water. The staff is certainly attentive and although not everyone has command of English language, there is always someone close by to assist. It has amazing private dining rooms with an excellent chef and attentive staff. Go ahead and absolutely take advantage of this unique opportunity. You will certainly love all of it! The hotel is close to several shops and small restaurants as also to Dongsi subway station and a large Wu-Mart (supermarket) are just a five minute walk. Other possible downside is that the location in Qianliang Hutong makes several taxi drivers refuse to drive there. For me, the location is part of the charm.
