The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of the most popular and exciting trails in the world. Also known as Camino Inca, the trail follows the historic and somewhat sacred route taken by the ancient Inca people to the reach the top of Machu Picchu Mountain, located in the Andes range. Due to the concern about erosion, the Peruvian government has imposed a quota on the number of people allowed on the Inca trail. At the moment, a maximum of 500 people are allowed each day, out of which 200 are tourists while the rest are porters and guides.
