The Volksgarten or the People's Garden was made in the range between 1820 and 1823. It is one of the earliest recreational territories in the central area of the city.
The well-designed park, was the preferred assembling place for nobility. It is spread out in French formal style with geometric flowerbeds. Various beautiful wellsprings and intriguing landmarks decorate the Volksgarten.
At the middle of the recreation center is the Theseus Temple, an imitation of a Greek sanctuary. While at the northern end of the recreation center is the Kaiserin Elisabeth-Denkmal, a dedication to Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria.
At the opposite end of the recreation center is a memorial in respect to Franz Grillparzer, made in 1889. It demonstrates a statue of the artist and dramatist Grillparzer in an exedra flanked by reliefs portraying scenes from his plays.
