अधिकThe Cardo Maximus was the fundamental north-south road of Roman Berytus. An area of the road – 100 meters in length or so - was found amid exhuming works, flanked by two lines of limestone platforms. These platforms once conveyed 6-meter-high segments supporting roofed corridors on either side of the road. A stairway in the eastern corridor offered access to an expansive building complex. The Cardo Maximus associated the Forum to another intricate that reached out from the present Al-Azariyeh working to Riad Al Solh Square. Archeological unearthing revealed two progressive levels of the road, the most seasoned dating to the second century CE. The later, more extensive road was laid out amid the fourth century A.D. The floors of the corridors on both levels of the Cardo Maximus were decorated with mosaic asphalts. These were secured, in the sixth century CE., with a thin layer of white lime mortar.
