The Leaning Tower of Pisa or the Torre Pendente, formally the Duomo's Campanile (Bell Tower), is one of Italy's mark sights. The 58 meters high pinnacle inclining 5.5 degrees from the vertical, took right around 200 years to build (1173 – 1372).

The building is around 55 meters high with a breadth around 34 meters. Built on similar unsteady sand as the Leaning Tower, the Baptistery inclines 0.6 degrees toward the church.
The inside is overpowering with the bronze figure of St. John the Baptist in the center and on the podium you can see the bare Hercules.
The main purpose of building Pisa Cathedral (Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta) in 1063 in a region outside the city defensive walls, was to reflect that Pisa is a secure place and did not need any particular defense.

The Campo Santo is otherwise called the "sacred field", by virtue of its chronicled legend of having been based upon the dirt brought from Golgotha. The Golgotha was a site rumored to be found ideal outside the dividers of Jerusalem, where the Christ was executed. The sacrosanct soil was brought from Golgotha during the Fourth Crusade in the twelfth century.
