Where is Bodrum?

Turkey

One country that acts as Europe’s bridge to Asia and the Middle East is Turkey. Known for the city of Istanbul, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, and its unique cuisine, Turkey boasts some spectacular holiday destinations and one such collection of resorts is located within Bodrum. Where is Bodrum? Situated 270 km south of Izmir, Bodrum is an endearing little port on the southwestern Turkish coast of Aegean. The port faces the Greek island of Kos and stands on the site that once housed Kingdom of Caria’s capital, Halicarnassus. Today, Bodrum has a population of thirty thousand and boasts a glut of historically important and naturally beautiful sites, excellent climate and a beautiful coastline.

In recent times, Bodrum offers a great summertime retreat, heavenly beaches, tranquility, and a five star stay. However, this wasn’t always the case. Many of the modern day Bodrum attractions either did not exist at all or were in a different place prior to 1935 when this hustling and bustling place was only a small fishing village.
However, after that fortuitous year, a whole generation of Turkish artists, writers, and intellectuals got together and took on the responsibility of changing Bodrum’s fortunes around. Since then, there has been no looking back for this Turkish port city in the Muğla Province. If you’re wondering as to where is Bodrum, know that it is at a distance of 188 km from the Greek Islands of Kos and Rhodes. The islands are a great attraction for shopping enthusiasts. Ferry rides also offer easy access to these islands from Bodrum’s Marina.

At a distance of just 2-3 km from Bodrum is the recently established resort, Gumbet. This resort is quite popular for water sports activities such as parasailing, windsurfing, and water-skiing. The place also houses street side-cafes, discos and numerous bars. Another great place for water sports and relaxation is Bitez which lies 7 km west of Bodrum. The winds/waves in Bitez are highly favorable for surfing and it offers umbrellas for sun bathing in addition to a sandy beach.

If you’re fond of historical remains and sites, then you don’t need to travel far from Bodrum. A two-hour drive from the city will take you to the ancient city of Kusadasi. Here, you’ll find treasures that are more than two thousand years old. This place takes you back to the times of the Romans. Also, one of the world's natural wonders, Pamukkale, is just a three-hour drive away from Bodrum. Bodrum is thus, ideally located and you can access all the key attractions in and around this port city with ease.
