Where is Falkland Islands Malvinas ?

If you want to know exactly where is Falkland Islands, these islands are present in the South Atlantic Ocean, located on the Patagonian Shelf. The major islands are present almost 300 miles to the east of Southern Patagonian coast of South America, at longitude 57° 40’- 62°00’W and latitude 51°40’- 53°00’ S. This archipelago has a total area of about 4,700 sq miles which comprises of west Falkland, East Falkland, and 776 smaller islands. The Falkland is a British overseas territory and therefore, the foreign affairs and defense of these islands is regulated by the United Kingdom.

The capital city of Falkland Islands is Stanley which is present on East Falkland. The islands happen to be predominantly hilly and mountainous, with the only exception of Lafonia’s depressed plains. Lafonia is a peninsula which forms the southern region of East Falkland. East Falkland contains the UK Military Base present at RAF Mount Pleasant, Stanley which is the country’s capital, and Mount Usborne which is the highest point of this archipelago. The Falkland Sound separates the two main islands of this island nation. The deep coastal indentations of this island also form natural harbors.
Many tourists are curious to know where is Falkland Islands in terms of natural beauty and landscape. These islands have a breathtaking landscape full of spectacular varieties of flora and fauna.

These islands happen to be a biogeographical part of the Antarctic zone and they have strong links to the fauna and flora of Patagonia, present in South America’s mainland. There are 63 species of land birds present on this island along with an abundant variety of arthropods. The flora of these islands consists of 163 vascular species.
There’s also a great variety of marine mammals present here. These mammals include the South American Fur Seal, the Southern Elephant Seal, and different kinds of Cetaceans. Five unique Penguin species and some of the largest colonies of Albatross are also found on these islands.
