Completed in 2009, the Three Gorges Dam is the largest electrical generating plant of any kind in the world. Sun Yat Sen first dreamed of harnessing the power of the Three Gorges in the 1920s. Legend has it that Yu, the mythical founder of the Xia Dynasty, repositioned mountains to quell the original flood to create the Three Gorges.
Five times larger than West Lake in Hangzhou, East Lake is the largest body of water within a city in China. There are six scenic spots around the lake, but Tingtao and Mo Hill are the most two notable and are open to visitors. In addition to picturesque views, you can visit a botanical garden, theme parks, and restaurants featuring regional fish dishes.
