Where is Marbella?

Spain

Where is Marbella? Marbella is a serene beach city that lies within the province of Malaga, in southern Spain. It falls within the domains of Costa del Sol and is situated on the region between the Malaga and Gibraltar Straits on the Mediterranean Sea. If you’re traveling towards the foothills of Sierra Blanca, you can clearly make out the distinct peninsula where it is located.

The area’s municipality extends over a 27 mile-wide coastline off the Penibecto region. This area is sheltered by a number of coastal mountain ranges, such as the Royal, Palmitera, Bermaja and the Alpujata sub-ranges.
Istan and Ojen municipalities border the northern region of Marbella. Towards the northwest, the Benahavis is located. The western and northeastern regions are bordered by Estepona and Mijas respectively. The Mediterranean Sea lies in the south, giving Marbella an interesting and diverse topography and climate.

Marbella is one of the largest tourist attractions of Spain. Casco Antiguo, also known as the Old Town, includes ancient city walls and two large historical suburbs. This area extends from Barrio Alto (in the north) to Barrio Nuevo (in the east) and houses the famous Plaza de los Naranjos - a landmark that denotes the earliest Christian conquests and settlements in the region. For all nature and peace lovers, the area between the old town and the southern sea is a must-visit. This area has a small botanical garden near the Paseo de la Alameda. It also has the famous ten-sculpture masterpiece by artist Salvador Dali and offers a spectacular view of the Old Town, with large and plush banyan trees.

Moving inland from the marina of Puerto Banus, you’ll find the Nueva Andalucia. This area has some of the largest professional Golf Courses in Spain. This region provides an excellent retreat for both professional and amateur golfers looking to brush up on their skills. No trip to Marbella is complete without a trip to the beach. The city has a 17-mile coastline with over 24 different beaches. During the summer months, tourists from the coldest regions of Europe flock together to the beaches in Marbella and enjoy sunbathing, tanning, water sports, tropical cocktails and parties.

Throughout the winters, Marbella hosts a series of cultural events and musical festivals. In addition, an International Film Festival is also held here every year. All these activities have placed the city as a popular tourist destination for all budget-conscious travelers and have made them curious as to where is Marbella.
