1. Deir El Qamar - El Chouf

Deir al Qamar is a brilliant architectural masterpiece. The village is located in the south of central area in Lebanon and it is some miles outside consisted out of red tiled roofs. The translation of the name is the Monastery of the Moori. The area was known as the Capital of Emirs. Different palaces were situated in the Mount Lebanon and it was situated in the area ever since the 16th Century and it was used as such till the 18th Century. Tourists can enjoy multiple different religious sites and the Lady of the Hill which is known as the Saydet El Talle.


2. Moussa Castle - El Chouf

The glorious, medieval looking Moussa Castle stands with all its majesty near the Beit ed-Dine. Even though the castle at first glance looks like a modernized Crusaders’ structure, the place has no connection whatsoever with the Middle Age or Crusaders. Built on a small mount in the middle of Bediteddine and Deir El Kamar, the majestic castle was built by one man - Moussa Abdel Karim Al-Maamari. The dream was conceived when he was only fourteen years old. After being mocked by his classmates and teacher, heartbroken Moussa escaped from his school to Sida, where his uncle lived. It was the first step Moussa took towards the realization of his dreams. After working for several years, Moussa finally bought a piece of land to build the castle of his dreams. According to his book “The dream of my life”, the castle was built in 21,900 days. It was Moussa’s dream to invite his beloved and teacher to the grand opening of the castle. He intentionally made the entrance low so that people could take a bow as they entered the castle. By the time the castle was built, Moussa’s teacher was dead. However, her beloved paid a visit to this amazing castle. There is a museum inside the castle that showcases a diverse selection of artifacts and weapons Lebanese used in the past. With medieval styled ramparts, draggers, Moussa’s collection of guns, Moussa’s castle is a true depiction of medieval times.


3. Kfarhim Grotto - El Chouf

The Kfarhim Grotto was discovered in 1974 and the event was celebrated by the local media for good reason. The 4 million year old formation was discovered by a group of boys who were playing soccer on the streets of Kfarhim. While passing the ball to one another, they happened to hit it off the path where it settled into a small gap and then disappeared in a hole. The boys returned to the spot with flashlights and candles, and the rest as they say, is history. The grotto has become a major tourist destination due to its still-preserved pre-historic natural beauty and for how large it is. The grotto can be found located in the midst of the El Chouf district in Mount Lebanon and it measures about 600 meters high. From Damour, it is at a distance of around 11 km. If you want to reach it, you need to take the southern coastal route from Beirut straight to Damour and then onwards to Kfarhim. It can also be reached via Damascus international route but it would be best to ask for directions before heading out just in case you get lost.


4. Beiteddine - El Chouf


Beiteddine is a small town that is located in the district of Chouf in Lebanon. It is located near the town of Deir el-Qamar to the southeast of the capital city of Beirut. The area is known for the magnificent Beiteddine magnificent palace where a festival takes place every year during the summers. A trip to the town is certainly worth taking if you are in Lebanon. Visitors can find many places of interest and things to do in Beiteddine, the palace here being notable. Beiteddine palace was built between late 18th and early 19th century by Emir Bashir Shihab II. The palace is richly decorated with mosaic floors, glass studded cupolas, and luxurious Turkish baths. The palace also houses its own museum, displaying various items of historical importance including pottery, sarcophagi, pottery, and jewelry. You must also visit the courtyard fountain that is located inside the palace. From the courtyard you can view the magnificent view of the countryside. A luxury hotel, the Mir Amin Palace, is also located in Beiteddine, originally a palace of one of the sons of Emir Bashir. A visit to the place is certainly worth it as you will find lots of interesting things to do in Beiteddine, allowing you to create memories that you can relive with pleasure during later years.


5. Mir Amine Palace - El Chouf

The Mir Amine Palace is beautifully designed; it was used as a Royal residence in the 19th Century. The old world hotel was is nearer to the lofty mountain side and it is near the Marie Baz Museum and Mousa Castle. The place is now used as a hotel where people are able to enjoy polished rooms, breakfast, WIFI and other technological advancements lined with proper stone ceilings. The architecture is nicely designed; the hotel offers a unique historical perspective. There are a wide variety of open air Italian restaurant.


6. Ain Zhalta - El Chouf

Ain Zhalta is an old village in the Chouf District of Mount Lebanon Governorate. The old village is located on the southwest part of the country. The district and the village are famous because a land mark battle, the battle of Ain Zhalta was fought in the area with the Syrians. The place is a Biosphere Reserve and is recognized as such by UNESCO in the year June 2005. Tourists taking a look at the area can enjoy a look through the history and it offers a peak to some of the best variations.


7. Deir El Oumara - El Chouf

The location of Deir al Qamar is ideal. It is a simple place for people to enjoy the authenticity of the Lebanese culture. The location is nicely located in the traditional Lebanese culture and the beauty of its hospitality. The Chouf people and their custom are what create the strength of the area. The place is nicely designed. It is warm and offers hospitable location which is nestled in the heart of the Lebanese mountains.


8. Barouk Reserve - El Chouf

Lebanon is known its plethora of reserves. It is located in the Chouf district of Lebanon and it is located around the slopes of the Barouk Mountain. The reserve is located in the area 550 square kilometers. The territory contains cedar forests, bird areas and is hot bed for eco tourism. The reserve holds over 500 plant species, 200 birds and 32 wild mammals. The reserve offers mountain peaks and also has a Niha cave castle.

10. Maasser el Chouf - El Chouf
